Gas prices are out of control!

Can anyone say ridiculous?
These gas prices are out of control. I left for work in the morning and it was at $3.89 and I got home that same night and it was $3.99. What?!?! Do you remember when gas was less than a buck? I miss those days. I miss filling up my tank for under $20 bucks and now I barely get 1/2 a tank for $26! I'm going to have to start walking to work...

I went onto the transportation site to see how long it would take us to get to work if we took the CAT bus. Let's just say we'd have to leave the house at 3am to get to work on time at 8am. And that is for a 12 mile commute! Yeah I had a good laugh at that one. Vegas public transportation bites. We'll leave it at that.

It's even starting to hit at the grocery store. Dryers ice cream used to cost around $3.50 for 1/2 gallon. Now they have made it 1.5 quarts and charging the same amount. Instead of raising prices they are making the packaging smaller. I get it. They don't want consumers to freak out about cost increase. I didn't even notice the smaller size until someone talked about it on the morning show I listen to. I did notice that the labeling was new...sneaky bastards LOL.

I looked at other options. How much would I save if I bought a Hybrid? The cheapest I could find was $23K for a Toyota Prius. And the savings on gas mileage compared to my RAV4 isn't significant. If I had the money, I would do it purely for environmental reasons. But savings on gas? Not that huge.

The oil companies made RECORD profits in the history of the United States. In HISTORY. Then when called on it, they claim it wasn't that much. WHAT EVER! It's all a bunch of crap. If they claim record profits while people are scrambling to figure out how to put gas in their car, something is definitely not right.

While I agree that we need to be way less dependent on oil, we still need to use it until the geniuses come up with other options. There is good and bad in every option, it's a matter of finding one that is best for the environment and best for consumers. Until then, someone needs to do something about it. At the rate we're going, I predict the already bad economy to get that much worse before it gets better.

Ok I'm off my soap box...for now! LOL. Tune in next week when I rant about the cost of healthy eating! :-)

Memorial Day Weekend and Dane Cook

So Donna and I went to see Dane Cook on Sunday night. It didn't start on time, it was about 11:20pm before the first comedian came out. He was great along with the second one. But when Dane came on, he wasn't his normal high energy self. And he was barely on for maybe 45 minutes. We were outta there before 1am. BUMMER! Now don't get me wrong, we were 8 rows back from the stage. Oh yeah, I could see his whiskers! He's even hotter in person! You know how when you see someone in person that you've seen on TV and it's kind of a disappointment? Well let me just tell you. No disappointment here. Boy is HOT!

I tried to get good pictures with my camera phone but my camera phone SUX! The first one is of Dane. It's totally blurry but I know it's him cuz I was THERE! LOL. The second one is of me and Donna. She turned her head as I took the picture so she looks a little out of it. HAHA. Aside from the short time we saw him and the goofy pictures, it was definitely good times. :-)

David Cook wins American Idol!

I am SO happy that David Cook won this season of American Idol. I must admit that when the season started I couldn't stand the dude. He got on my nerves and his hair! But as the season went on, he got better and better.

Now some people don't think the week they did Andrew Lloyd Webber music was good. Since I like that kind of music (I have a very eclectic taste in music) I thought he and Syesha did an excellent job.

I can't wait until his first single is released. Everyone knows that David Archuleta will still get a record deal so don't be all whiny about it! David Cook, awesome!

Dane Cook baby!

My new crush is Dane Cook. For those of you who don't know him, he started out as a stand up comedian. He's now been in several movies. He's done a few comedy tours and finally he is coming to Las Vegas. Yes, with my "stimulous package" from the good old government I bought tickets to see the show! He will be here Memorial Day weekend and Sunday night we will be there to see Mr. D.C. Woohoo!!!

Guilty as charged!

Ok, turd face (Salem) is getting on my LAST nerve! I recently discovered that a pigeon has made a nest on one of my windowsills. Now Salem is obsessed. I have plantation shutters on the windows and turd face has figured out how to open them and harass the poor bird. So I finally stuck a chair in front of it so he'd leave birdie alone.

Now he's bored. And harassing me. And making a mess of my office. Yep, that's him....tearing everything apart.

He's about to go into time out!

Corporate Challenge kicks off!

One of the cool things that our company participates in is Corporate Challenge. "CC" kicked off the end of March down on Fremont Street. We had so much fun! The opening ceremonies included the Executive's Race. Five people from our management team had to tie a tie, bounce on a ball, proofread a document, blow a bubble and sit on a block of ice while singing a song. We placed FIRST in our division!!! Whoohoo!!! Below are pictures of the team, as well as our famous Mayor, Oscar Goodman!

One of the events I participated in by default was the range shoot. Yep, shooting a gun! I have shot some guns in my life but I am no where near expert. However, it's better to have me than have to forfiet right? We had 30 seconds to shoot six rounds, reload and shoot another six. Based on advice (turns out it was BAD advice) I was told to shoot fast because thirty seconds will fly by.

The first round was at 15 feet. I hit it twice in the same place, though no score. The second round was at 19 feet. Wow. I sucked. By the last round, I learned that shooting fast = really bad aim. So I slowed it down and managed to get 80 points out of 350. HAHA that's embarassing! When we were done with the event, one of the marshals asked me what my score was:

Marshal: "So, what did you end up with?"
Me: "I'm not gonna tell you"
Marshal: "Why not?"
Me: "Cuz you'll laugh at me!"
Marshal: "No I won't, I promise"
Me: " I scored 80"
Marshal: Laughing out loud, "But did you have fun?"
Me: "I had a blast!"
Marshal: "Then that's all that matters"

Amen! Sometimes all you can do is take one for the team and have a good time doing it!

Changes

Life has many changes. You can't escape them, but you can make the most of them. I recently went through a divorce. Talk about major change! Thank goodness we still remain close friends. I never understood when people said they made better friends than a couple until I went through it myself.

I do not regret any time spent during the seven years of my marriage. I learned a lot about myself, a lot about him and most importantly I learned what I need in a marriage. I won't lie, marriage is WORK! But in the end, hopefully you learn.

I recently bought my first home as a single person. It's a little scary doing it alone but I remind myself that there are many people who do this and many more that will. I look at it as an investment and can hopefully sell it when the market picks back up. Until then, I'm having "fun" (NOT) going up and down three flights of stairs. The best part is that I get exercise whether I want it or not.

Friends

I'm used to Wordpress so I can't figure out how to add pictures to the blog and not to the post. So for now, here are some pictures of friends.

Uh oh, another blog! :-)

Since everyone I know seems to now have a blog on Blogspot I guess I must now join the club. I used to have a blog on Wordpress when I was blogging about my experience in Mary Kay Cosmetics. I actually had great fun writing and had a pretty big MK and Anti MK following. Yes, I just tooted my own horn! hehe.

I figured why do a blog when I don't have a lot of stuff going on. But then I figured what the heck, I'm a follower. I'm following everyone else. So here it is. The blog of Julie. I'm sure I'll figure out something to write about!
